myki is your ticket to travel on Melbourne trains, trams and buses, all V/Line train services across Victoria (except in the short term to or from Albury, Benalla and Euroa stations pending installation works), and local buses in Seymour, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, the Latrobe Valley and Warragul. And now you can now use contactless payments on trains, trams and myki-enabled buses right across Victoria. Simply tap on with your Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card, smartphone or smartwatch, and be sure to tap off the same way.

If you use a Visa or Mastercard, make sure you have enough money for your journey before you tap. If you use a myki card, simply top up your myki credit before your journey and then touch on and touch off at a myki reader as you travel. You can buy and top up your myki at over 800 retailers around Melbourne and Victoria including all 7-Eleven stores, the ticket office window at Premium Stations and staffed V/Line commuter stations, from a myki machine located at all train stations and major tram and bus interchanges, online and by calling 1800 800 007 (6am - midnight). A full fare myki card costs $6 and a concession, seniors or child myki costs $3.

Fares for 2026 are listed below. Fares have a validity of 2 hours, so you can change trains or from train to bus to tram within that time period without paying any extra. You may complete your final journey AFTER expiry of the time period as long as you boarded within it. There is however a daily fare cap which means you will never have to pay more than the cost of two 2-hour fares. This daily cap applies Statewide across Victoria.

Children less than 4 years old travel free and do not require a ticket, but all other travellers must have a valid myki, tap&go or ticket. Free travel with a Youth myki is available to those aged less than 18 years. Concession fares (generally 50% of the adult fares) are for those aged 18 and less than 19, seniors card holders (60+), pensioners, asylum seekers, war veterans, war widows and widowers, school students, eligible tertiary students, Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment recipients, Health Care Card holders and DHHS Carer Card holders. To access concession fares, you must purchase a concession myki card and provide evidence of your entitlement to the concession, or you can access concession fares through tap & go by registering your Visa or Mastercard for concession fare travel through the Transport Victoria portal.
Seniors travelling on concession fares must carry their Seniors card to prove their eligibility, and 17 and 18 year-olds must carry official identification to prove they are less than 19yo.

At the moment, travel on VLine Coach services (and train travel to or from Albury, Benalla and Euroa stations) is not available using myki or tap and go. To travel on VLine coaches or by train to or from ALbury, Benalla or Euroa stations, you can purchase paper or digital tickets to travel. VLine paper or digital tickets to or from Melbourne also include travel on VLine trains as well as Melbourne metropolitan trains, trams and buses - simply show your ticket to the staff at the ticket barriers when entering or leaving stations.

Within the central city Melbourne Free Tram Zone, all travel on trams is free and no myki is required. The Free Tram Zone is prominently marked on tram stops with bright yellow and green signs, and onboard announcements are made when your tram is approaching the end of the zone. If you are travelling beyond the free tram zone, you must tap on as normal. No free travel is available on trains or buses.

NOTE: From June 1 to December 31 2026 inclusive, all train, tram and bus travel in Victoria (but not ferries or airport buses run outside the myki system) is charged at half of the normal myki fare. The table here lists these reduced fares.
